Yes, unfortunately that is the way Ebay has always worked.
Sellers have to pay extra to impose reserve prices and are not allowed to place ordinary bids on their own items.

Thank you. I had no idea Gixen (or ebay?) would increase my bids (within my max bid of course) to hit a reserve set by the seller. I just thought it bid against other bidders.

Close to the top of the bidding page it says 'Reserve met'.
This means the seller must have set the reserve at ÂGBP 70, and this was what you were bidding against.

I tried to post an image of the bids but the forum kept saying I was using sp-- keywords.
