As shown at the bottom of this page: https://www.ebay.co.uk/bfl/viewbids/144226816810 there was a bid retraction, for a US $250.00 bid, 1 second before the auction ended. So the auction price must have been higher than your snipe up until the last second. It looks to be a pretty clear example of what is known as bid shielding, which is against Ebay rules. I'd recommend reporting it to Ebay and pointing it out to the seller.
Gixen tries to counter this, but it doesn't always have enough time left between bid retraction and auction end to submit your bid.

Post subject: My bid was higher, but sniper says 'Bid under asking price
1. The sniper didn't work, even though my bid was higher. The bid that won was $51 and my bid was $142.50. Not sure why I didn't win.
2. Item #: 144226816810
