No, it's always bidding in the currency of the auction.
Your problem is in something called "ebay bid increments" (google this). It's not enough that your bid is higher, it has to be higher for a certain increment.

i just used this site for the first time im in the Uk
when i add the aution the price comes up in GBP but when i bid its just the numerical display
I bid 1.0 for an item that ended at 0.99p and it said it was under the asking price? it should of won the auction, my setting are set to united kingdom so im wondering is this site bidding in dolldars?
how do i change my bids to read in GBP? i dont want to loose anymore auctions
