I would have definitely won this item
Not to take away from the fact that it was, indeed, a disappointing outcome in this case... that statement would only be true when you can see that the highest bid is the highest amount that bidder was prepared to submit a bid to Ebay for... if the winner wins by a whole bid increment, as in this case, you will never know what their high bid actually was, it may have been higher than yours.
All you can say, for certain, is that had your bid been successfully submitted the final auction price would have been higher.

I'm quite upset because I would have definitely won this item... I went ahead and manually placed a bid on another item ending tonight in case the same thing happens. What a disappointment!

It looks like that at some moments today snipes were timing out from both servers at the same time. This likely means that there was either a wider internet, or ebay issue. I cannot be sure, however, what the exact cause it.
Only a handful of mirror subscribers were affected. Please email me and include a link to this forum thread.

My snipe also didn't execute today, and it WAS mirrored. Both the regular and mirror said the same thing about a login time out... what gives?

I think it is, most likely, just bad luck.
I do recommend a Mirror subscription, even if you only snipe infrequently, for a whole year of cover the cost is, a very reasonable, $6.

No, I didn't do the Mirror. I didn't really know what Mirror was until you mentioned it and I went back and read about it.
I guess I just got unlucky then. =(
I was hoping maybe the message: EBAY ERROR: LOGIN TIMEOUT (1)
meant something specific which I could avoid in the future by taking a specific action.
Please post if any other solution comes up other than bad luck.
Thanks

Was this snipe Mirrored, and if so what status did Gixen give the snipe on the Mirror tab?
If it wasn't Mirrored then I would think it most likely that you were unlucky and that this was one of about one in three hundred snipes that fail, for similar reasons, when only attempted to be placed by a single server.

Post subject: My snipe didn't work today...
Hello,
I only snipe and use Gixen on rare occasion. I just set up a snipe for this evening that didn't work. Gixen gave me the following status message:
EBAY ERROR: LOGIN TIMEOUT (1)
The item # is 371553667782
Thanks for any info on what went wrong.
