The Gixen snipe amount has always been the maximum amount that you are prepared to bid on the item.

That remains the case with items that you buy from private sellers in the UK, and now includes the amount that they charge you as a buyer.

This is is exactly the same as when you place a bid manually via the site.

It's actually ebay that takes off the buyers premium in order to show a lower bid amount than was actually entered by the potential buyer.

I'm annoyed that I've lost out on bidding for an iPhone. My maximum bid entered in Gixen was ?GBP 341. It sold for ?GBP 320. Ebay's buyer fees added ?GBP 13.12 making ?GBP 333.12. Did Gixen actually submit my bid, or did it wrongly think it included buyer's fees and wasn't enough of an increment?

For UK items now there are buyer protection fees, in addition to eBay increments. Bid increment in that price range is ?GBP 10, and buyer protection fee is around ?GBP 17 (4% up to ?GBP 300 and 2% for the amount above ?GBP 300). This is why you lost.

Another argument that has been discussed many times before.

My take on this has always been, and remains, if you want that option you are not currently entering snipes at the true maximum you are prepared to pay.

Agreed, this would be a most welcome addition!

An interesting option for automatic bidding would be - in auctions where one is outbid by less than the bid increment, another automatic bid is placed, to give a second chance of winning the auction.

I have lost a few auctions by less than the bid increment and would have chosen the option of having a 2nd bid placed to win the auction.

An example of this option is for an item where my maximum (automatic) bid is $10. If it becomes the 2nd highest bid and the current price is between $10 and $10.49, another automatic bid is placed for the bid increment amount over the current price.

If you ever wondered why you lost when your maximum bid was equal or above the winning bid, please read the latest Gixen blog that explains how the eBay bidding process works, including some border cases, what exactly is done by Gixen, and what are eBay's own features.
