It was not the same problem. For the auctions in EUROs, minimum bid increment is 0.50 EUR (search this up on ebay). For both auctions, your bid was less that 0.50 EUR more than the winners.

For items of this (low & known) value, you would have probably been better off had you placed a regular proxy bid at ebay instead of sniping.

I had the same problem a couple of minutes ago!

BID UNDER ASKING PRICE

The gixen didn't make the bid, there are no retraction! You can check it hare:

offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=110082267492

The strange is that the winner placed his offer at Jan-31-07 11:18:08 PST and the end of the auction was at Jan-31-07 11:18:31 PST!!!

The same hare:

offer.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewBids&item=110082260611

I snipped it with 2.78 euros, this auction has no bid from me and the closing bid was 2.55!!!

What's happened?

This might also be tactics on the part of the second highest bidder. If he used another account to enter "wrong amount" (that got retracted later on), he effectively ensured he would not be outbid (after all, you were ready to pay more!).

If I were you, I would send a message to the seller to check if this is what happened. Even if it is not fraud, he got screwed anyway, and may not be aware of it. If it is fraud, he should notify ebay and re-list his auction.

Aha - just checked the bid history and there was a retracted bid:

Bid retraction and cancellation history

Bidder Action Explanation Date of Bid and Retraction
Bidder 9 Retracted: 240
Explanation Entered wrong amount Bid 25 Jan 07 16 46 44 GMT
Retracted 25 Jan 07 17 35 07 GMT

Don't know how to protect against that, though.

Thanks for the prompt response

This is quite weird - 2 minutes before this auction ended, Gixen checked the price, and it was at 235 (GBP), so Gixen updated the price and just skipped your snipe:

Jan 25 12:33:33 VO11485 sniperd[1759]: Fetching auction info for item 170074224587, got 1169746550, 235.00, IBM LAPTOP R51 CENTRINO 1.4 (2.8GHZ) DVD / CDRW WIFI..

My best guess here is that seller retracted some bid(s) in the last 2 minutes of the auction. If you don't mind, please send him a message asking if this is indeed what he did.

PostPosted: Thu Jan 25, 2007 12:22 pm    Post subject: Gixen not bidding

The following is the result:

Group: 1 IBM LAPTOP R51 CENTRINO 1.4 (2.8GHZ) DVD / CDRW WIFI..
170074224587 ENDED 186.00 128.00 1 BID UNDER ASKING PRICE

I can't see what I did wrong, and ebay has no record of my bid

Help!
