Which is why it is often the sniper that bids earlier (by setting a larger offset) that wins the auction, not the one that bids last.

Quite the opposite. Your bid is the last one, as you are the one sniping. Hence bid increment rule works against you.

I Gixened this:- 270658857811 at $15.57 as I wasn't that enthusiastic about it and I didn't think anyone else would be either.
The winning bid was $15.53. Now there was a link explaining bid increments as being why I lost it but it doesn't seem to make sense.
Surely as my bid was $15.57 the winning bid should be $16.07. If he only bid
$15.53 then I should have won.
