Cutlery can have issues like this as it may include knives which are a restricted item in some jurisdictions.

What this means is that Gixen tried to place the bid at the end of the auction as normal, but Ebay rejected it and returned that error to Gixen.

Most likely it is because of a restriction imposed by the seller, but potentially it could also have been imposed directly by Ebay themselves, sometimes due to differences in legislation between jurisdictions that restrict the sale of certain goods.

You might be able to find out by asking the seller what restrictions they put on bidders for that auction.

If it happens again you might also want to consider placing some manual bids in order to see if you can get the Ebay site itself to indicate what it wants from you in order to remove this block.

Other aspects that might be significant are if it was an unusual item for you, perhaps at a much greater value that you would normally purchase with this account on Ebay, or located in a different country from your own/where you have your shipping address.

Really, as you can see from this short response, unfortunately the problem could be related to quite a few different issues, and therefore without a bit more information and/or investigation it might be quite hard to track it down.

What we can be reasonably confident of though is that had you tried to place this bid manually on Ebay at any time before the auction ended, they would have rejected it anyway, from experience, they might have been a bit more explicit as to why the bid was being rejected though.

Thank you, Mark. It was an unexceptional item, some cutlery, I often bid on home items. There was a reserve price on this one, maybe my bid did not reach it. I have bid on other items since with no issues. Thanks for all the support from Gixen.

I have used Gixen infrequently over the past few months and am a non-subscribed user. I placed a snipe today which did not happen and it gave 'ineligible to bid' as the reason. This has never happened before, can anyone explain this and what to do to avoid it in future?
