I have used Gixen for almost a year. Never had any problems and always recommend you guys. However, I just had my first surprise.
Item number: 110600829406. Winning bid was $459 and my bid was $552. I did not win and both main server and mirror server gave "bid under asking price" message.
Is there a way you guys can check what happened? Thanks!

I am with you. I been having the same problem lately. It seems everything I have been bidding on this past week or so, I have been the highest bid but lost with the same note that I was under the asking bid... Question

myrla1, Eric, unfortunately I am not sure - I turned the debugging logging on now, so I should be able to find out very soon if this was caused by another ebay page change.

Rob, mirror won that item for you - you haven't noticed you are the winner?

OK, but you write that the mirror server was not affected
I subscribed to the mirror server option but lost it anyway...

Cyril, what is the item id?

There were 2 auctions that mirror was late for in this time period (which were not result of problems, but rather normal statistical failure). Let me know what the item id is, and I will take a look.

It's important that you reply, as I do my best to make it right for mirror customers in whatever way possible. You can also email me directly.

Cyril gave an item id of 380283490973 in his first post above, I guess that is the one he is talking about?

Sorry, didn't see it. Mirror was indeed late on this one (not because of any problem, but because it just happens). Cyril, please email me.

I was the higher bidder on item 320618221478. Someone else won the auction for a few dollars less then my maximum bid. What happened?

That someone is you. You won it for less than your maximum bid.

LOL, people trust your site and specifically the status on the main snipe page, they dont even bother checking anywhere else...

Can you investigate getting both servers to show the correct Won/Lost status?

It can be extraordinarily confusing, particularly if you use a non-US ebay as the link in Gixen points you to the US site so the auction appears but ebay does not tell you you've won.

In my case I then went to the UK site and it still didn't tell me I'd won because fleabay had silently logged me off. Rolling Eyes

On a similar note, could you investigate whether it would be possible to allow us to select which ebay we are sent to when we click on an item link?

It is the first option on the Settings page that you get to by pushing the Settings button on the main snipes page.

Hmm, I thought I'd done that. Must have ommitted to press the update button on that section. Rolling Eyes

So, another advantage over Bidnip!

Gixen main server in this case should clearly show status "WON"... not sure how you didn't see that.

Simply because it didn't occur to me that they would say different things. I had a long list of bids that occurred whilst I was out so it wasn't obvious.

I can see why it's logical for the losing server to think (correctly) it could not place a bid but it's very confusing for us humans when we don't realise that's likely to happen.

Once you know it can happen it's not a problem but it's certainly confusing the first time.

Add: Looking at the Gixen lists again, I see where my problem was: The main server gives you a composite picture of the bidding process on the two servers whereas the mirror only reports its own status. Having been mainly looking at the listing of the main server I was used to seeing the composite result displayed. And the tab highlighting on Gixen is reversed from my normal browser so I didn't notice I was looking at the mirror listing. Definitely a 'once per person' problem as you get used to the system.

My first try with Gixen, and I must say: disappointed!
For item 400174603500 I gave a limit of 11.11, the auction ended at 10.73, but I did not win nor was there a bid for me. Status sais "BID UNDER ASKING PRICE". What??
Why did I lose this auction?

Praezis,

It's not enough that your bid is higher; it has to be higher for a certain increment. This is ebay's requirement, not Gixen's. For EUR and in this price range, that increment is 0.50 EUR.

See http://pages.ebay.de/help/buy/bid-increments.html and you will understand.

Thank you for your answer.
I knew that link. But it also says: if my bid is the highest, it does not have to be a full increment higher, just one cent is sufficient. When bidding manually, it will never happen that an auction will end lower than my limit.
I understand, that Gixen avoids bidding if the difference is lower than one increment, and this I would call a logical bug.

praezis,

Gixen does no such thing - in fact Gixen will skip bidding only if current price is strictly higher than user's bid. In fact, Gixen logs all the "bidunderaskingprice" return pages received from ebay (as this is not the first time Gixen is blamed for this I have to log it), and you can see the one for your auction here: http://www.gixen.com/forum/images/400174603500.PNG (I removed your username from the page as I am not sure if you want it public). It is clear from the page that the minimum bid at the time ebay would accept was 11.23.

The truth is that you can win for less than the minimum increment difference, but in order for your bid to be accepted, your bid must be at least a full increment higher than the current high price. It does not have to be a full increment higher than other user's maximum price. So you can beat another user for one cent difference, but that has everything to do with his maximum bid, and nothing to do with the current high bid.

It would make no difference had you bid manually, I guarantee it.

I understand the issue, I did not realize this fact before, surely missed it in the bustle with manual bidding in the last seconds.
Again thank you for your fast and detailed answers!!
