I lost this auction because although my bid was higher than the winning price it was not quite 1 bid increment higher...

Item: 126555918658
Title: TP-LINK JetStream TL-SG3428X 24-Port Gigabit L2+ Managed Switch with 4 10GE SFP+
Seller: satelliteandaerial
Status (main): BID UNDER ASKING PRICE
Status (mirror): BID UNDER ASKING PRICE
Your maximum bid: 155.00
Current price: 152.19

Suggest you add an option to increase the max up to the next bid increment if this happens, I'm sure the service that I used to use did this.

So, what you are saying is that 155.00 was not the maximum that you were prepared to pay for this item ?

What was the offset that you chose for this auction, assuming that you have an active Mirror subscription ?

What I'm saying is that I could have won the item at 157.19, one bid increment above the winning bid, which was placed 30s before the auction end. Obviously if I'm prepared to pay 155 I'd be prepared to pay another 2.19 to win the item.
So in his situation Gixen could offer an option to increase the max to the next bid increment if my bid is higher than the current price but not by a full bid increment.
AuctionSniper does this, they call it Bid Enhancement, I guess I will go back to using them.
Code:
Bid Enhancement is an optional tool that can help protect you from losing an auction by just a few dollars. To use Bid Enhancement, after you set your max bid, specify how many additional bid increments above your max bid you would like Auction Sniper to protect. In the event that you are outbid, we will bid again using your Max Bid + the amount you specified for Bid Enhancement (if that number is still competitive).

It's not at all obvious to me. If that was the case why didn't you just set your snipe amount to be 157.19, or higher ?

My second question was:

There was a reason for that. You are assuming there is enough time to place another bid after receiving and processing the response to the first.

How long before the auction ends does AuctionSniper place its bids ?

There's no guarantee that a bid of 157.19 could have won either, it might have just pushed the price a bit higher than you were actually prepared to pay.
