Here in the UK eBay adds a Buyer's Protection fee onto the bid amount.
In my imported watchlist, where I can make snipes, the current bid sometimes shows the current bid including the fee and sometimes it shows it excluding the fee. I suspect that Gixen is displaying whatever value eBay sends and eBay are not being consistent.
I just got stung badly because I did not realise that my maximum bid (my snipe) was excluding fees. So I just won an auction for ?100 but when I went to pay it was ?120 because fees.
It would be good if Gixen could take fees into account.
eBay says:
When purchasing from UK-based private sellers, the Buyer Protection fee is calculated as:
A flat fee of ?GBP 0.10 per item, and
7% of the item price up to ?GBP 20, and
4% of any portion of the item price from ?GBP 20 to ?GBP 300, and
2% of any portion of the item price from ?GBP 300 to ?GBP 4,000
There is a cap on the total fee amount you'll ever pay. Any portion of the item price over ?GBP 4,000 will not incur any additional fee. When purchasing multiple quantities within a listing, the flat fee is only charged once.
If you cannot do this then maybe have a big warning that snipe bids to not include fees. |

| I realise this could be very difficult for you to tell if it is a UK-based private seller. So maybe this is not possible to fix. |

This is already being discussed, to a certain extent:

There does seem to be a difference in displaying fees between auctions that have bids and those that don't (yet).
There is also a difference in how this is handled between bids placed via .co.uk and those placed via .com, which is changed via your Target setting on the Gixen Settings page.
My understanding is that, whether or not the charge is being made, you should not be asked to pay them more than you actually bid... which you are implying IS the case here. I'd ask you to check that again, because, if true, ebay.co.uk may have made a change that might be contrary to UK consumer law.
However, if you are actually bidding on an auction that is from a seller outside the UK (as you imply by using the Euro sign in your original post, and also indicated by the actual figures involved) the difference that you are noting may actually be UK import tax/VAT, which Ebay is required to collect from you and pass on to the UK tax authorities because the UK is no longer part of the European Single Market. Buyer protection is not something Ebay charges on auctions from non UK sellers, as far as I know.
You are correct, unless things have changed since Mario first posted about this, that Ebay has not provided any mechanism whereby Gixen can find out whether an auction is from an account that Ebay has assigned to be 'Private' or 'Business'. _________________ Mark |
