Gixen mirror server is now upgraded to a new machine (this was a seamless transition that users were not aware of). The old mirror server served exceptionally well, with uptime of more than 3.5 years with no reboots.

09:02:52 up 1326 days, 8:15, 4 users, load average: 0.00, 0.00, 0.00

I hope the new server is as reliable as the old one, do you know the manufacturer?
Is the new one the same manufacturer? _________________ Mark |

I don't, and I don't think it matters that much - they do use brand-name servers though, that much I know. I did, however, took SSD (solid state drive) this time, and it seems great so far. It's usually I/O that's the bottleneck, and that seems not to be the case any longer. |

Sounds good... yes, I'm sure you are right it is the quality of the components that matters most and there isn't any manufacturer that makes absolutely every component in their machines, they all buy in components and assemble complete machines. _________________ Mark |

Cupid,
From my experience, two most popular servers manufacturers are Dell and Super Micro.
The third one is HP, but it's not so popular as Dell and Super Micro. |

I had not heard of Super Micro until now, but as you say they do seem to be a global brand now... I've obviously not been keeping up with the hardware business. _________________ Mark |
