Yes, there was a later snipe that beat yours, occasionally Gixen fails to detect those.

Gixen has to wait until after the auction has finished and then go back and look, which is a later process than placing your bid and seeing if there was already a bid that was higher than yours. Unfortunately, that later process is not quite as reliable as the placing of the bid in the first place.
