Howdy,
The last few days, gixen doesn't seem to be making bids or recognizing when auctions are over.

My last three entries all showed as SCHEDULED long after the auction was over. I could not get them to refresh until I changed something in the entry. then it noticed it was ENDED, but it gave the error:

"This snipe may have been entered too late into Gixen and may not be executed."

That's actually appropriate for the edited entry, since that auction is over, but it doesn't seem to have bid. All the times shown look right except the time remaining for auctions that have expired. Logging out and back in does not help.

On the last one, 260703938798, I placed & won my bid manually, just in case Gixen didn't work, and it didn't. It showed it as SCHEDULED until I later changed the entry and only then did Gixen notice that the auction had ENDED, but it did not change the entry to WON, which also suggests Gixen had not placed a bid. I am only using Gixen main (Chicago).

Any ideas?

Thanks,
Tom

Howdy,

Now that I think about it some more, this could be just a display problem. The previous bids were all under the current amount, so could have failed for that reason and simply been displayed incorrectly. Since I made the last bid manually in the same amount before Gixen's time arrived, it too would have been under the increment amount for a new bid.

Anybody else have problems like these? Gixen has been utterly reliable in the past. I've never had a problem before.

Thanks,
Tom

Are you hitting F5 / Refresh by any chance? I can see some deleted / re-inserted snipes for this same item. This, however happened after the auction ended. Note that "refresh" is a wrong way to get the status of completed auction. It will delete the original entry, and re-insert a new one, and in that way hide the status of the deleted auction from you.

The one you entered on Friday, however, was fired, but the bid was too low, probably because you entered your snipe manually before Gixen had a chance to do it.

Howdy,
Wow, what a fast reply! That would account for what I've seen: The first time I hit refresh, it cancelled and re-entered all the entries. That didn't matter for the unexpired entries, but made all the expired ones too late and also wiped out the real status.

What is the correct way to refresh entries? Go to Home and login again?

Thanks,
Tom

Tom, probably the easiest way is to click on "Add" with no item entered. Unless you are a mirror subscriber, you will see the splash screen again (e.g. buy mirror ad, or link gixen), but then you click on the Continue again, and you will see a refreshed list.

I know this is an awkward way to refresh, I should really add a "refresh status" button for this purpose.

'Purge Completed' make a good refresh 'button' when you're on the main site tab and normal refresh seems to work if you're on the mirror tab.

Howdy,

The problem is still there. Right now it is showing 320629524925 as SCHEDULED and having 6 hours remaining and at $24.50, but it ended two days ago at $129. That may have ended with a Buy-it-now, but that shouldn't matter. I did ''Purge Completed' and 'Add'/'Continue' and only the 'Time To End' changed. I won't edit this entry so you can see the problem.

I recently started using Firefox instead of Crazy Browser (which I believe uses the Internet Explorer engine). Could Firefox be the problem? Or some setting I need to adjust in Firefox?

Thanks again,
Tom

I think Gixen has just not detected that it has ended so is still working with the original auction end time.

It's not a major issue to sniping per se as no snipe could be made after it has been purchased with a BIN, however I agree it should detect the situation, at least within a day.

This won't have anything to do with the browser that you use as the detection of auction end time is a fubction carried out on and by the Gixen servers.

The price refresh process can take up to a day for non-subscribers, so it should have been updated by now. I turned on some logging, so we'll see what's wrong.

As Mark mentioned though, it's not a major issue, as it does not prevent snipes from being placed. Also, I haven't noticed this as a problem across the board, it seems limited to a small number of items. I will, however, investigate it.

Howdy,
Now you can see item 250746010069 on my list now, even though it expired 5 days ago.

Tom, the original end time was today, but it ended early with buy it now. You can either delete it manually, or it will expire in two days on its own.

OK, I can live with that. I just don't ever remember seeing that before. I think in the past I have seen "ENDED EARLY WITH BUY IT NOW" so I'm wondering why I didn't see it for this one even after I logout and back in or switch to the mirror site and back to get it to refresh. It is a little disconcerting to think "I may win this one!" and then see that it ended days ago at a price much higher than listed as CURRENT. It's not a big deal; it just doesn't seem like it's behaving the same way it used to.

And don't get me wrong: I still love Gixen! Best site ever!

Thanks,

Tom

PS: I also note that item is gone now and I didn't delete it. Maybe it was automatically deleted after too many days.

If nobody else is seeing odd behavior, I guess I'm just doing things a little differently than I have in the past.

Tom,

What probably happened is that Gixen finally updated the end time. Not sure why not before; Once the end time was updated and it was older than 48 hours than the current time, it was subsequently deleted by another process that does that.

I'll take a look to find out why the end time update hasn't happened before.
